Mia Makela (a.k.a SOLU) is finnish media+live cinema artist, teacher, investigator and cultural activist residing in Barcelona.
She has performed live visuals at various contexts including SONIC ACTS (Amsterdam), TRANSMEDIALE (Berlin), SONAR (Barcelona), AVIT (Birmingham), MAPPING (Geneva), TRANSIT_MX (Mexico City), Museum for Women in Arts (Washington), Museum of Contemporary Art(Helsinki) and many more.
Her style ranges from minimal abstractions and strongly processed material to multilayered ambiental landscapes. She processes her visual material with MAX/MSP/JITTER and Isadora.
She has published a thesis on Live Cinema in 2006 and edited a special issue on the same theme for A:minima magazine in 2007. Her latest workshop titled ”Audiovisual Realtime Creation” took place in Spain, Germany, Belgium, Finland and Mexico.
