| SHARE Interview (Link to audio file)
January 2008, Reboot, East Village, NYC.
The idea to make an interview came from a personal need to learn more about communities, especially those involved in SHARE.NYC.
There is an inexplicable generous and welcome feeling that I felt since first time I went to this event. Elsa Vieira helped me to organize this interview. To my request for an interview, people related to SHARE.NYC responded generously with their time, experience and knowledge. The major theme of this interview is collaboration and community. The participants in the interview are people closely related to SHARE: founders, regular participants as well as members of the team who puts the event together every Sunday.
The resultant audio document from this interview will give an idea of what may define SHARE as unique among AV performance events. The interview draws on to many ideas directly or indirectly related to social structures, performance structures, aesthetics and institutional/alternative structures, illustrated with personal experiences as solo artists or as part of other communities. While a lot of communities either vanish or get institutionalized and this way end up losing their identity, SHARE has been successfully collaborative, non-hierarchical, open and free event.
Thanks to Elsa who introduced me to everyone otherwise the interview as it is here wouldn't be possible. Thanks to all the amazing guys who participated: Benton C. Bainbridge, Bill Etra, Daniel Smith, Dan Winckler, Elsa Vieira, Geoff Matters, Missy Galore and Peter Shapiro.
Unfortunately Keiko (Uenishii) couldn't be there but I would like to thank her for helping to gather people for the interview and all her great help. Also a special thank you to Bill Etra who had to take his lift back home and still stayed for as long as possible.
