Realtime books

The VJ Theory project was born from a demand for philosophical perspectives which attempt to analyse and inform the questions and problems related to the practices of working in realtime media.

From this demand, expressed at seminars and festivals, such as Narrative Lab and AVIT 2004, our original plan was to compile,in a publication, written works produced by theorists and practitioners.
VJ Theory is starting it's own publishing imprint, going back to the original idea for the project and in this way developing it further. By publishing DVDs and books we make theoretical works related to audiovisual realtime interactive performance available to researchers and academics offline.

If you have any idea for a project or a text you would like to see published by realtime books, please contact us (vjtheory(at)yahoo(dot)co(dot)uk).

Upcoming publication: VJam Theory

VJam Theory (collective writings on realtime visual performance) presents the major concerns of practitioners and theorists of realtime media under the categories of performance, performer and interactors, audiences and participators. The volume is experimental in its attempt to produce a collective theoretical text with a focus on a new criticality based on practitioner/artist theory in which artist/practitioners utilise theoretical models to debate their practices.

VJam Theory will continue to be available for free after its publication.

Publication date: April 2008.
